Live with a partner, parent or other relative

Important things to keep in mind

The processing times for this pathway can be extremely long (around a year and a half to two years).

  • If you wanna live with your registered, married, or cohabiting partner or if u plan to marry or live as cohabiting partners.

    • Be over 21 years old

    • Be married, registered partners, cohabiting partners, or plan to be in one of these.

    • Have a valid passport

    • Meet the maintenance requirement (with exceptions).

    • The person in Sweden needs to have: Swedish citizenship; Nordic citizenship; a permanent residence permit; a permanent residence card; permanent residence status; or temporary residence permit due to a need for protection or exceptionally distressing circumstances.

  • If you wanna live with a relative who is not your spouse, cohabiting partner or child.

    • The relative must have a permanent residence permit or a temporary residence permit due to distressing circumstances or need for protection.

    • You must have lived together with your relative before.

    • You must be emotionally interdependent.

    • You must intent to live together in Sweden.

    • You must apply as soon as your relative is granted the appropriate residence permit.

    • Meet the maintenance requirement.

    • Have a valid passport.
