Important things to keep in mind

The processing times of permits such as self-employment can reach up to two years and is quite inconsistent. There is also a difference in processing times between different fields of work.

    • Have a valid passport

    • Have a contract

    • Meet the appropriate salary/wage levels

    • Employer must have insurance for you

    • Meet the minimum salary threshold

    If you wish to bring family members:

    • Meet the financial requirement through income or funds

    • Have a valid passport

    • Have sufficient experience in your field and running own business

    • Have sufficient knowledge of Swedish or English

    • Own at least 51% of the business

    • Have a credible basis for your budget

    • Must have established customer contacts or networks

    • Be able to support yourself financially

    • Have enough funds to run the business

      If you wish to bring family members:

    • Meet the financial requirements through own funds

    • Have a valid passport

    • You must have completed studies equivalent to 60-credit Master’s degree, a 120-credit Master’s degree, a professional degree worth 60–330 credits, or a postgraduate/PhD-level degree

    • Be looking for employment or seek to start your own business

    • Be able to support yourself with own funds

    • Have comprehensive insurance in Sweden

    • Currently be outside of Sweden
