Important things to keep in mind

You may apply 90 days earlier than when you fulfill the residence requirement.

In cases when you receive a conditional green card, such as when you’ve been married to a U.S. citizen for less than two years at the time of obtaining legal permanent residence, you may still apply for citizenship. However, the application will only move forward once you receive a decision on the removal of conditions.

    • Be at least 18 years old

    • Proof of lawful permanent residence for at least five years

    • Demonstrate continuous residence

    • Proof that you have been physically present in the U.S. for at least 30 months in the past five years

    • Show you have lived at least three months in a state or USCIS district

    • Show good moral character

    • Demonstrate attachment to principles and ideals of the constitution

    • Meet the English and civics requirements

    • Take the Oath of Allegiance to the United States

    • Be at least 18 years old

    • Be a lawful permanent resident for at least three years immediately before your application

    • Have been and continue to be in marital union with your U.S. spouse in the three years preceding your application and while your application is adjudicated

    • Have lived for at least three months in a state or USCIS district

    • Must have held continuous residency in the U.S. the last three years

    • Reside continuously in the U.S. from your application date until your naturalization date

    • Be physically present in the U.S. for at least 18 months out of the last three years

    • Meet the English and civics requirements

    • Show good moral character

    • Be at least 18 years old

    • Have served honorably any time in the U.S. armed forces for a period or periods totaling at least one year

    • Have submitted Form N-426

    • If separated from service, proof of honorable conditions

    • Be a lawful permanent resident at the time of naturalization interview

    • Meet residence and physical presence requirements

    • Fulfill the English and civics requirements

    • Demonstrate good moral character for at least five years before filing your N-400 through the day you naturalize

    • Demonstrate an attachment to the principles of the U.S. Constitution and be well disposed to the good order and happiness of the United States during all relevant periods under the law, unless waived
